Why Arizona Parks Turn Into Lakes After the Rain ๐ง๏ธ (Yiddish)
5 views 2h ago
Ever wondered why some parks in Arizona turn into lakes after a big rain? It isn't a problem. It's the plan!
Come along as I show you a flooded park that was built lower than the streets around it, how the rainwater finds its way in, another park after the rain, and a walkway that turns into a lake. On a normal day these are places to play and take a walk. After a storm, the same land holds the water so the homes around it stay dry. Engineers call this a retention basin.
It's one of those things you don't notice until you live here, and it's a big part of how Arizona neighborhoods are designed for our desert rains.
