Sunset | Eli Aboud

“Sunset” tells the story of two men granted a rare audience within a King’s treasury as a reward for their bravery. Given only until nightfall to fill their sacks with the kingdom’s finest jewels, they are met with a room that appeals to both their future security and their immediate desires. While one man remains focused on the ticking clock, diligently gathering the diamonds that will secure his place by the throne, the other falls prey to the “quick thrills” of the feast, losing himself in the music and wine.

Rebbe Nachman, in the first lesson of Likutei Moharan, teaches that a Yid must always look for the Chochmah, the singular spark of holiness hidden within everything. It is the wisdom of the great tzaddikim that calls every soul to maximize their time and opportunities in this world, reminding us that we are surrounded by endless chances to learn Torah and perform mitzvos. This song is an invitation to stay awake to the beauty of our mission, constantly growing and joyfully seizing the eternal treasures that wait for us in every moment.
