Last week, the night before my brother’s chasuna, I was sitting with Naftali Schnitzler and Yanky Steinmetz, chatting about everything happening in the world, when the word “ratevet” came to us. It describes that deep scream, that cry for help. Pesach is the time when we remember that cry from our time in Mitzrayim and throughout the ages, and how Hashem hears it and rescues us – גדול הוא הרועה שמצילה מידם.
I went on to compose this song, “RTVT,” and the very next night had the opportunity to surprise my brother with a new song. Shmueli Ungar joined me live, and he was instantly hooked. It became clear we had to release this song, and there is no time more fitting than right before Pesach. May this RTVT be our final cry before the geulah. Chag Kasher V’Sameach!
Lyrics:
גדול הוא הרועה שמצילה מידם
אידן שרייען ראטעוועט – ראטעוועט
העלפן אונזער טאטע וועט – טאטע וועט
ראטעוועט! ראטעוועט!
Translation:
Great is the Shepherd who rescues us from their hands.
Yidden are crying out: “Save us! Save us!”
Our Father will help us — He will help us.
Save us! Save us!
