מאחורי הניגון עומד סיפור, על חסיד פולני ששר אותו במהלך יום הכיפורים בבית הכנסת של העיירה; בעת שחש תחושה עילאית ולא הרגיש בסביבתו, עד ששכח לשבור את הצום בצאתו. במוצאי יום כיפור נכנסו אנשי הקהילה לבית הכנסת ומצאו את האיש ועודנו שר את הניגון בדבקות.

אותו אדם עשה מעשה אצילי כשתרם את רוב רכושו לאישה ענייה שבעלה שקע בחובות לפריץ. לאחר שתרם את הסכום הוא נאלץ למכור את ביתו ונכסיו, ותוך מספר שבועות נפטר האדם שפדה. אותו אדם התגלה בחלומו כצדיק נסתר והבטיח לו כי הוא ישוב לעשירותו, אך התורם ביקש לותר על העשירות לטובת הרגשת גן עדן ביום הכיפורים. כאשר הוא חש את התחושה העילאית, הושר על ידו ניגון זה.

Behind the melody lies a story of a Polish Hasid who sang it during Yom Kippur at the town's synagogue. He felt an elevated sensation and was unaware of his surroundings, forgetting to break his fast upon leaving. After Yom Kippur, community members found him still singing the tune fervently.

This same person performed a noble act by donating most of his wealth to a destitute woman whose husband had fallen into debt. After his contribution, he had to sell his house and possessions. Within a few weeks, the man who fell into debt passed away. In a dream, the man appeared as a hidden righteous individual, assuring him he would regain his wealth. However, the donor chose to renounce wealth for the sake of experiencing paradise-like emotions on Yom Kippur. When he felt that elevated sensation, this melody resonated within him.
