Classic homemade vasser (water) challah 🍞✨

Ingredients 📝

5½ cups warm water 💧

5 lb flour 🌾

4½ tbsp dry yeast 🍞

1 cup canola oil 🫙

3 tbsp salt 🧂

Add yeast to the warm water 💧

Add a pinch of sugar 🍬

Let it sit for 10 minutes ⏳

Wait until the top gets frothy ☁️

Add the water to the flour 🌾

Add salt 🧂 and oil 🫙

Knead by hand 🤲 or with a mixer ⚙️

Until smooth and soft ✨

Let the dough rise for 1 hour ⏳

Braid the challah 🪢

Egg wash 🥚

Sprinkle sesame seeds 🌾

Let it rise again for another hour ⏳

Bake at 400°F / 200°C 🔥

30–45 minutes ⏲️
